Over the Catoctins
The Catoctins are not high, maybe 2,300' tops. But they ARE wooded - no place where I'd ever want to do a crash landing.
Here's my track across the waist of the Catoctins. The light green bits are farm fields, the dark green are trees.
Also notice all the roads that cross the mountains here. There's even a railroad, the main line of the old Western Maryland. I'm not the first person to see this as the way to go.
