The Juniata, looking east

This is that mountain at the end of Valley B that I worried about crossing. No problem; I just fly high. This is just east of Lewistown. Here, the Juniata found this way through the mountains. Despite its remoteness, this became the royal road west from Philadelphia. Where the railroad lies, there once was a canal that Charles Dickens traveled in 1842. I have been here before, albeit 50 years ago. Those tracks are the main line of the Pennsylvania Railroad (now CSX). Riding the Broadway Limited from home in Illinois to school east of New York, I must have come through this valley in the night. I now return with a much better view.
