Which Valley?
From McConnellsburg, which valley should I fly to Mifflintown - A or B? My first consideration is always to have a landable field within reach should the engine fail. In general, those are the light-green bits in this Google Maps satellite view. The dark green bits are the forested mountains.
Of course, I can fly high and fly anywhere, knowing that I can glide to a good field with my 8:1 glide ratio. But then I don't get to see anything interesting, especially on a hazy day like this. So I fly the valleys. But which valley?
Valley A is shorter and avoids going over the mountain at the end. But it also has fewer farm fields.
As you see here, Google Maps is my best friend for this choosing.
