Susquehanna River, Looking North

Early explorers briefly thought that the Susquehanna might be the royal road to the west. But no. It flows from the north, not the west. And most of its length is not navigable except by canoe. Indeed, if you look past the I-95 highway bridge in the middle of this picture, you'll see the Conowingo Dam, the current head of navigation.
