For Hugh and I, West Virginia is like the Mountains of Mordor. We never fly there because wind over the mountans makes the air turbulent and there are so few emergency landing areas.

But this rare August weekend brought three days of still air. We flew deep into West Virginia Saturday evening, spent the night at the Windwood Resort in Canaan Valley and returned Sunday morning with a glorious tale to tell.
