My brother Jay and I went to see how our ancestors pushed a canal and then a railroad over the barrier of the Allegheny Mountains. It was an amazing engineering feat.

It's best seen from the air, though, so I flew my trike north from Front Royal, VA, and Jay drove west from Philadelphia. We met up on a Wednesday evening, toured the area by trike and car the next day, and went home that evening.

This is what we found.
